Introduction

Evenson Power Welding Cable is engineered specifically for the electrical and mechanical demands of arc welding. Welding circuits combine very high currents with constant dragging, coiling, and exposure to spatter, heat, and oil, so the cable that carries them must be both extremely flexible and exceptionally tough. Evenson Power answers these needs with finely stranded copper conductors and a resilient rubber sheath built to survive the welding bay and the open construction site alike.

Offered in standard YH and flame-retardant YHF constructions, Evenson Power welding cable connects the electrode holder and work clamp to the welding machine, bus, welding box, or transformer, providing a low-resistance, highly flexible path for welding current.

  • Purpose-built for arc welding electrode and return circuits
  • Class 5 flexible copper for constant flexing
  • YH standard and YHF flame-retardant constructions

Overview

Welding cable must do two things superbly: carry large currents with minimal voltage drop, and flex endlessly without the conductor fatiguing or the sheath splitting. Evenson Power achieves this with a Class 5 finely stranded copper conductor and a rubber sheath formulated for heat, abrasion, and oil resistance.

The YH variant uses a natural rubber based sheath for excellent flexibility and resilience, while the YHF variant uses a flame-retardant rubber compound for welding environments with elevated fire-protection requirements. Both share the same focus on flexibility, durability, and reliable current transfer.

  • YH: natural-rubber sheath, maximum flexibility
  • YHF: flame-retardant compound for high fire-protection areas
  • Low-resistance current transfer with minimal voltage drop

Construction

The conductor is a Class 5 flexible copper conductor made up of a large number of very fine annealed copper wires. This high strand count is what gives welding cable its characteristic suppleness and its resistance to work-hardening and breakage under repeated flexing.

Over the conductor, Evenson Power applies a heat- and abrasion-resistant rubber sheath. The YH construction uses natural rubber for outstanding flexibility, while the YHF construction uses a flame-retardant rubber compound. The single-core, sheath-only design keeps the cable light and flexible while the thick elastomer wall protects the conductor from spatter, dragging over rough surfaces, and contact with oils and greases common in fabrication shops.

  • Class 5 high-strand-count flexible copper conductor
  • Heat- and abrasion-resistant rubber sheath
  • YH natural rubber / YHF flame-retardant compound
  • Single-core design for light weight and flexibility

Range & Ratings

Evenson Power welding cable is available in nominal conductor sizes of 16, 25, 35, 50, 70, and 95mm², covering the range of welding machines from light fabrication units to heavy industrial sets. Larger sizes carry the high currents demanded by heavy-duty welding while still bending easily around the work.

The cable is rated 450/750V in accordance with IEC 60245-6. Its wide temperature window supports service from -40°C to +85°C in fixed use and -20°C to +85°C when flexed, allowing it to perform in cold outdoor sites and hot fabrication environments alike.

  • Conductor sizes: 16, 25, 35, 50, 70, 95 mm²
  • Rated voltage: 450/750V
  • Temperature: -40°C to +85°C (fixed), -20°C to +85°C (flexed)
  • Single-core welding lead construction

Key Features & Benefits

The high-strand-count conductor delivers the flexibility welders prize, making leads easy to maneuver and reducing operator fatigue, while resisting the conductor breakage that shortens the life of stiffer cables. The rubber sheath shields the conductor from welding spatter, sharp edges, oil, and abrasion, extending service life in punishing conditions.

The YHF flame-retardant option adds an extra margin of safety in enclosed or fire-sensitive workplaces. Together these features mean fewer cable failures, less downtime, and a safer, more productive welding operation.

  • Superb flexibility reduces operator fatigue and lead drag
  • Conductor resists fatigue under constant flexing
  • Rubber sheath resists spatter, heat, oil, and abrasion
  • YHF flame-retardant grade for fire-sensitive areas

Applications

Evenson Power welding cable is used to connect electrode holders and work clamps to arc welders, welding buses, welding boxes, and transformers. It is the standard lead for manual metal arc (MMA/stick), MIG/MAG, TIG, and gouging operations across a wide range of industries.

Typical environments include shipyards, mines, construction sites, structural steel fabrication, heavy equipment manufacturing, and mobile welding rigs, all of which demand a cable that tolerates extreme physical abuse while remaining flexible enough for everyday handling.

  • Electrode and work-clamp leads for arc welders
  • MMA, MIG/MAG, TIG, and gouging applications
  • Shipyards, mines, and construction sites
  • Structural fabrication and mobile welding rigs

Standards & Testing

Evenson Power welding cable is manufactured and tested to IEC 60245-6, the international standard for rubber-insulated arc welding electrode cables rated up to and including 450/750V. Testing covers conductor DC resistance, sheath thickness and mechanical properties, high-voltage withstand, and flexibility.

For YHF flame-retardant cable, additional flame-propagation testing confirms the cable’s self-extinguishing behavior. This rigorous regime ensures every length delivers consistent current capacity, flexibility, and durability.

  • Manufactured to IEC 60245-6 (arc welding electrode cables)
  • Conductor resistance and HV withstand testing
  • Sheath thickness and mechanical property checks
  • Flame-propagation testing on YHF construction

Installation & Handling

To maximize cable life, avoid dragging leads over sharp edges and protect them from being run over by vehicles or struck by falling material. Coil leads loosely when storing to prevent kinks, and keep connections clean and tight at the lug and connector to minimize resistive heating at the terminations.

Inspect the sheath regularly for cuts, burns, and abrasion; promptly repair minor damage or replace cable where the conductor is exposed, since damaged welding leads are both an electrical-loss and a safety concern. Match cable size to the welding current and duty cycle to avoid overheating and excessive voltage drop on long runs.

  • Protect leads from sharp edges, traffic, and falling material
  • Keep terminations clean and tight to limit heating
  • Inspect the sheath; repair or replace damaged leads promptly
  • Size the cable to welding current and run length
